BIOGRAPHY

Lazaros is Head EIF (European Investment Fund) Affairs in Brussels, where he exercises finance/economic diplomacy, at institutional/EU (with Council, Commission, Parliament) and at venture capital level (with Benelux private equity market, fund managers, Institutional/Long-term Investors etc.). Previously, he served as EIF legal advisor in Luxembourg (European Investment Bank Group), with responsibility for external investment fund vehicles and holding funds (formerly, for new investment products). Admitted to the Bar in Athens (Greece) and New York (US), Lazaros worked as Corporate Associate at the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) of law firm Herbert Smith (London), where in 2006 he was awarded the Herbert Smith’s Financial Services distinction. He did law consulting at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and at the Harvard Law School Program on International Financial Systems. Lazaros has been at various executive positions – inter alia, Member of the Board of Managers of Anthea – Contemporary Art Investment Fund SICAV FIS. He is an expert on financial regulation and international banking, mainly advising on investment funds and on structuring of financial entities. He actively contributes to the debate on the international financial architecture (eg banking supervision, Bretton Woods II etc.). Lazaros is author of the book Banking Regulation and World Trade Law (Oxford: Hart Publishing, 2006); the book is in the libraries of leading financial institutions, financial regulators, law firms and universities in US, Europe and Asia. He is on the Editorial Advisory Board of the European Business Law Review.
