George Gerapetritis earned his bachelor’s degree in 1989 at the Faculty of Law of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He holds a Master’s degree (LL.M.) in Constitutional and Administrative Law of the University of Edinburgh. He was awarded his PhD in Public and European Union Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Oxford. He has been a Professor of Constitutional Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Athens since 2003, where he was appointed Director of the Public Law Department and Member of the Rectorship (2016-2019). He worked as visiting Professor at the London School of Economics. He was a visiting fellow at the Institute of European and Comparative Law of the University of Oxford, at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies of the University of London and at the Institute of Global Law and Policy of the Faculty of Law of the University of Harvard. Furthermore, he was a fellow at the German Marshall Memorial Fund (2003) and at the French Conseil d’Etat (1995). He worked as an Attorney-at-Law at the Athanassiou Gerapetritis and Associates Law Firm (www.ag-law.gr), pleading before the Hellenic Council of State, the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights. He served as the Minister of State from 2019 to 2023. Since June 27, 2023, he has been the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic.
